Quality and Sustainability
I am a passionate individual that thrives in groups where I can improve processes, create specific results and see those goals through. Most of the last 20 years have involved working in some form of process strategy and design, analysis, software implementation and project management. Tire and Rubber Manufacturer
Trained and consulted large tire and rubber manufacturer implementing quality systems. This client is one of the largest companies in the US. In this engagement I worked directly with the corporate director of quality systems. It involved tens of thousands of users across the world.
50+ Manufacturing Companies
As an implementation consultant at IBS America, I worked with over 50 large and small manufacturing companies to implement quality & environmental systems software and associated business processes and practices. This work included some of the largest companies in the world and covered a diverse cross-section of quality functions including:
- Custom design of reports for upper management to determine KPI’s of their quality and environmental systems.
- Account management of very large scale ISO 9000 & ISO 14000 implementations across multiple plants.
- Training to hundreds of users on implementing ISO 9000 & ISO 14000
- Process design facilitation.
Largest Remodeling Firm in the USA
I undertook leadership role in a three year project for the largest residential restoration & remodeling firm in the country. The company had a combination of factors that led to unusually challenging quality issues including:
Multiple customers with (sometimes) conflicting desires. Customers included insurance companies, homeowners, FEMA and commercial building owners. Sometimes a building owner and their insurance company have very different expectations of desire outcomes.
Solution: Get clear customer expectations. I created a process to get clear customer expectations for all parties very quickly. Results included shrinking job time by 30% and decreasing accounts receivable by 70%.
Uncontrolled environments. Unlike a manufacturing facility, the inputs to every job are extremely diverse and completely uncontrollable. Every building has different types of wall coverings, flooring and materials.
Solution: Gain control of environments. I created and trained on a process to document the environment and assure that the properly trained individuals were assigned to the job. To a manufacturer this may seem like a minor issue, but in such a large scaled diverse environment this was a major challenge.
Massive education needs. With so many different inputs and customer expectations to any given project, the skills sets of the people doing the work is extremely diverse. Getting the right knowledge to the right people at the right time was critical.
Solution: Large scale just-in-time education & ongoing training. Proper customer expectations required customer education. I implemented a learning management system and education initiatives that included classroom and online learning for customers, employees and suppliers.
Speed. A significant portion of the work was disaster restoration after fires, floods and other sudden events. Insurance companies and FEMA pay hundreds of thousands of dollars per day in replacement housing and business continuity. One of their key concerns is getting homes and businesses back to operational activity quickly.
Solution: Quick sign-off of design and project specifications Since all quality is a result of systems, by capitalizing on the objectives listed above and setting start to finish KPI’s, project time was drastically reduced.
A few critical quality measures show the results of the project.
Time: Average project time reduced by 30%.
Profit: Profit increase of 16%
Satisfaction: Customer satisfaction increased 45%
